Why is it gas city?

...or why isn't Marion not known as lynch city?  ( Strange Fruit song  https://www.grunge.com/338349/the-tragic-meaning-behind-billie-holidays-strange-fruit/)

*Apologies for the history lesson and awareness of negative aspects of our American History. It is just after Juneteenth, so I've been made aware of Marion's history.

That’s the name of the place … Gas City. I think it’s called that because Hell was already taken.

I think it was due to the discovery of a lot of natural gas in the area & it became a “boom town”.  Kind of like the Western boom towns that popped up when gold was discovered.

My niece went there for a visit because they offered her a softball scholarship.  She said it wasn’t for her. Nothing is going on in that place.

I remember when Gas City got the truck stop. It was a big deal. The actual city is down from the exit a few miles and hasn’t been anything since the natural gas boom that built central Indiana went bust.

Ivanhoe’s in Upland is worth visiting though

Heading out to see some Bluecoats tonight! Anybody else out there?

We are all so jealous and happy for you at the same time, lol.  Can you please drop your thoughts after rehearsal without revealing anything we are suppose to know?  You know the kind of stuff we all clamor too, like how was the drumline, the brass, guard, pit, general effect, ballad, yada yada....

Thank You in Advance!
