I like the broken yolk sandwich.  It’s delicious.

I looked up the location on google maps & I go to the Starbucks that's located next door a couple of times during finals week.  I saw the cafe but never researched it.  Looks like the 'Broken Yolk' with bacon for me. 😀

I'm not sure of the real data, but my anecdotal experience tells me most auditionees who get cut choose not to march, vs joining a different corps, no matter how hard we try to encourage them to audition elsewhere. Thus smaller corps are bound to get smaller, IMO, with this change.

I'm aware how hard some WC corps work to share cut lists, but what I'd like to see is for DCI to take a more active role in recruiting these cut members for other corps. A good start would be for DCI to take over ALL of the "Audition Signup" logistical procedures, thus creating a centralized database of all auditionees. "Virtualize" the first level of auditions for both vis and axe (perc/brass/cg/dm), and let ALL corps view them, and try to recruit them! If that's too much work for corps leadership, require the auditionees to prioritize their Top 3 corps....then corps leadership could filter on only those auditionees who listed them in their Top 3.

Corps would spend all of November and December looking at videos. The first "camp" would be the callback January Camp. After January, all "cuts" become fair game, for the best marketing/recruiting campaigners out there.

I think you'd get more young people to participate this way.

(The big problem: Corps WANT to run Nov/Dec Audition camps in multiple cities, to collect fees from kids they know have no shot, lol. Somehow, you'd have to factor that into "Audition Fee" when a kid signs up.)

There's a third question, but forum decorum prohibits its mentioning.

and dont forget the debit side.

I'm with you on this Jeff, but the increase in costs should be incremental for the most part.  Getting uniforms in bulk, the cost for an additional 11 should be less than 100% extra per unit.  Insurance premiums should be negotiated by total members, so it's possible they already have a coverage ceiling higher than the new number.  It should still work out to a net credit on the corps P&L, but you are correct... it's not just a straight increase of 11 times the tuition figure.

food costs probably make it break even as nothing gets cheaper these days.

Once again, talking out my you know what without much insight into today's corps recruiting efforts... What if most (realizing it certainly wouldn't be all) recruits chose basically the same 3 corps? How does that help the little guys?

But I do agree...much it fees-wise does seem to be a bit of a money grab.

For the last several years, when BAC holds their auditions in the Boston area, they have the folks from 7th Regiment in attendance, complete with video setup  and even a mannequin wearing a uniform. Their  corps director and several caption staff are also present to speak to possible members who just may not yet be ready for WC.  I do not know if other WC corps do anything like this or not.
