traverbanking
The Marines bought their current bugles from Kantsul while they were still in business as Kantsul.

They were barn finds! The American Pickers guys found them in an old shed in Rockingham, MA, along with a 1967 VW Variant and two Plymouth Satellites that had under 100 miles on the clock. Jalopnik is going to add a drum corps section to their barn finds because of this. 2

I think BAC bought a lot of their tools and machines. At this point it just doesn't make sense for them to use 2-valve bugles unless some other company wants to do a specialized set. The Conn-Selmer East Lake, Ohio factory is just north of me (where they make a lot of King instruments and more) and they could probably do it but it would take some retooling and would come at a cost. karuna
They are custom-made 3 valve G bugles hand made by the Horn Doctor (https://www.coolisbac.com/). And yeah he got all the tooling from Kanstul. B.A.C stands for Best American Craftsmen. 2

karuna
Interestingly enough, most of the guys in the unit would rather play Bb Yamahas (which would have saved the Corps more than 50% ordering from WW/BW. ). 1

I'm not surprised. I wonder if there is anyone active in the unit who performed on G's at any time before joining. Regardless, I saw them at 8th and I in 2019, on their old 2 valves. They sounded fantastic.

Never played Bb bugle but going from 2v to 3v was great. With the right arranger it really opens up what can be done musically.
