If the DCI organization went away???

My opinion ...... Whatever the organization is, they should take total control! Don't let designers and directors decide what is judged. Think about selling to the fans as well as bring in new fans. ENTERTAINMENT!!!! The organization should have final say on what staff members are being hired by each corps, thorough background in vestigation on ALL staff members and volunteers for ALL corps. That's just some ideas

That would be going back to the archaic form before DCI. The very reason corps wanted out at the time. As far as entertainment, that would be just as subjective as anything else and is. Now the background checks can be done by the DCI office but corps should be compelled to do this and agreed on by all. It's a good start although many offenders do skirt by the system 1 way or another, so there will always be issues time to time just like any group activity.

Remember " They " as in DCI, are the corps

Anyone pointing to the NFL as the example of how a strong central executive can make sure the individual member organizations are operating ethically should use the news feature in Google and look up "Brian Flores."  😎

The "Archaic" system must have worked because we had hundred plus more corps in North America back then.

The VFW and AL are both on life support, and have been declining for decades. High school marching bands now do what small town drum corps did for early skills developing teenagers. Parents are working longer hours and making less money relative to what they were making in the 50s and 60s, so have less time to volunteer.

Sans DCI, the activity would likely have died years ago.

The Flores suit will likely be settled, and he'll likely walk away with the check. The NFL office in NY will send new "don't be naughty" memos to the teams, which means that the Commissioner will prove  to be just as weak, in that sense, as is Acheson.

BTW, has anyone yet shown that the DCI office was notified of the issue at Spirit last summer while it was happening? No? Oh.

Interesting as just read the NFL findings about the “Washington Football Team” cannot be released unless the team owner allows it. Immediately thought of DCI under same rules. IOW a corps is investigated but no one (members, potential members, parents) will know what was found if corps says “no!”. (What was the quote from the Pioneer investigation “what goes on in the corps, stays in the corps”)

Yep, AL glory years of membership were due to WWI and later WWII veterans. Lot of Posts in my part of the state have closed, merged or surviving off the “social members”. And they don’t have the money they used to for sponsoring.

Used to go to a city church that closed its doors a few years back. To keep the Scout troop going they opened up to local kids. Finally disbanded the Troop because they couldn’t get parents to help. No slam on the parents, just too many worked two jobs and/or nights and weekends to make ends meet.

Several interesting ideas here.

But none from me. 😂 If I could predict the future, I'd be out buying lottery tickets.
