Lot more than just a website of a group that hasn’t done anything in years. You mean like Racine Scouts, who regularly post on FB about their fundraising efforts (bingo, working concessions at Packer games, etc...). Their website advertises of an opportunity to join their 2018 parade ensemble, but nothing more recent than that. https://racinescouts.yolasite.com/ Many of these organizations have people involved that have loose dreams/aspirations of raising the corps from the dead, but the goal is oftentimes pretty unrealistic. The end result is years of attempting to get something started... maybe doing a parade or two every year to satisfy their mission of providing kids with some sort of marching experience.

If they can pay for the website on which they advertise their plans-that-will-never-come-to-fruition, then they must still have some ember of funding that has not flickered completely out. Possibly someone paying out of their pocket or a website that still exists for an organization that doesn’t. Know of some closed businesses or groups that still have websites up. Which of course is 180 degrees from “keeping (someones) dream alive” with Pioneer. Edited February 17, 2022 by JimF-LowBari

Man, the director of long-dead Capital Regiment (last fielded 2009) paid himself $50k a year from the zombie nonprofit’s bingo game (as of 2018 at least)

Much of that goes right back into the the cash prizes, facility costs and other expenses. Net income was only $69,391. That said, it's still a pretty substantial operation for an organization that has no apparent intentions of returning to the field anytime soon (despite the 990 indicating that they field a corps).
NewToPosting
It's baffling to me. Why use a NON-profit to drive a profit/compensation for yourself? Why not just create an ACTUAL business, driving ACTUAL profits? I get the whole tax situation with non-profits, but it seems like the juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze, especially if you could the exact same things as a for-profit business. You'd probably be able to bring in even more funds, without the limits placed on non-profits? We live in a capitalist-leaning society. We support finding a way to make a lot of money - just not through non-profits, which exist to serve a purpose (other than making the owners money). Why do that?

LOL, so now they're a drum and bingo corps.
