Drum Corps International 50th Anniversary

Recommended Posts

I'm not dead yet either, but my wife is mad at me and the day's not over.

I will SURE as hell be celebrating Drum Corps 50th and someone's first (and only) DCI win!

And congrats to you Terri and all others who were around back then and the pre DCI era too.  Have we not seen it all?

I watched the Rita Moreno broadcast with my band friends and we all laughed when she mentioned how much she liked the "costumes".  Costumes???  They were uniforms!  I guess she knew way back then where things were going to go.

Hey I say costumes! But they were uniforms back then.

You were the champ, friend.  I was 29th place. But, I remember it all well.

Two words: Rita Moreno

Ironic timing as listening to SiriusXM on my drive Sunday. Kasey Kasem Top 40 countdown from this week 1977. One song was “Flying High” from “Rocky”.

Artist: Maynard Ferguson…. And yes I turned up the volume…

Carmine Appice......awkward!

Having attended UW-Whitewater, I remember marching many drum corps style shows in the Warhawks Marching Band while Stan Fink was the director. I will be attending the show on 16 July. I also marched in plenty of DCI shows, and exhibitions at BOA Camps as a member of The Commandant's Own at Warhawk Stadium (Perkins now). Does that count for celebrating?

Maybe I’m being too harsh.  Jim said someone is going to clock me like a weasel at DCI because of my rant.  I said A weasel?  He said you know, those things you knock down and they pop right back up.  I said Do you mean a weeble?  “Oh yeah, a weeble”.

Another show theme for Vessel to take on!

Side note: Jim seems to have weasels on his mind a lot these days
