They seem like artist smocks to me. With the props and such and Use your Imagination (I looked up the theme title) it made sense visually. But yeah...they were frumpy. Man, this reminds me so much of watching so many shows in Illinois in the 70s that had nothing, but small corps until maybe the Guardsmen or Belleville came on. One corps in CA had ZERO guard so they were getting 0 or 0.1 on the score sheets for the CG caption. Raiders only had 3. Does anyone know why?
