Anniversary Program

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were in Allentown last weekend.

We were surprised how many people were upset that DCI didn't put out

some type of Anniversary Program for the 50th season.

People were saying that the programs are their only way to

know what the majority of the corps shows were about and the music they

were playing.

Seemed like tremendous missed opportunity.

Just a guess, but publishing something on the dci website costs a fraction of what it would take to physically print 100,000 programs.  DCI just doesn't have the money to do something like that in a digital age.

i wonder the ages of those upset.  because i find many under 40 don't look at their playbills on broadway.  Unless they want it as a momento.

This has been a great season, and two things are going to be missing…a program/yearbook, and an offering of a finals bluray according to another thread.  Those two things are what make the season for me, so to not have those offerings is sad.  I will admit that I am part of the older crowd having been a fan since the 80’s, and I see the younger crowd not showing interest in some of the things like programs, media on disc, etc.  I get it…but it is still hard to swallow for someone like me who is pretty much a “collector” of items that are no longer being offered.  I thoroughly enjoy browsing thru a program/yearbook from a season while the bluray/dvd plays in front of me on my big screen tv.

Count me Among those not happy.  I've not missed a Finals since I started going in 1988.  I have every single program.  For DCI to stop on a big anniversary year is a real shame.  I'm going to hate seeing my collection end.  I get the price, but those were popular buys.  Seems like DCI is missing a profit opportunity.  Ditto all the above for the Blue Rays.  I have the DVDs/Blue Rays all the way back to DCI's very first year.  Proudly displayed.

Are you referring to the annual DCI for-purchase yearbook (I think it's called)? If so, I'm shocked they aren't publishing one this year.

Yes, that one.  What a huge gaffe by DCI (and lost revenue) if they aren't doing it.
