I think Cadets were at Lakewood Ranch last February.

Cadets last fall / winter had their audition camps in NJ ( Salem ) , Florida ( Tampa , ie Lakewood Ranch ) Texas ( Leander ) , and Indiana ( Carmel ) as well as video submission consideration by applicants for a spot in line .
Boston Crusaders had their Fall/ winter audition camps in Texas ( Dallas & San Antonio ) , Florida ( Orlando ) , Indiana ( Indianapolis ) . Boston also considers applicants via video submission assessment .

Pacific Crest changes.  Glen Crosby resigned as Program Coordinator and Director of Percussion.  Nicole Casino resigned as percussion co-caption head (replaced by David Ramirez filling in as acting co-caption head in July.

The corps is searching for replacement for Program Coordinator to be filled by end of August, then searching for new percussion caption head.

Unfortunate that it came to this, and I am rooting for some positive change at PC, but I will note that @George Dixon and @Poppycock called this during one of the regionals.

I actually really appreciate Pacific Crests approach to sourcing and hiring staff. I won’t speak to how it has benefitted or disadvantaged them but it certainly casts a wide net and feels inclusive rather than the typical behind the scenes “good ‘ol boys” approach.

I think a lot was expected from PC after their best season ever in 2019 including me. If Mandarins can break into that next level why can't PC and they seemed to be heading into that direction.

Losing their drill writer to Phantom Regiment probably hurt a lot.

(And helped elevate Regiment substantially)

I saw a number of ways the corps not at the top of the food chain struggled more coming back from covid this season.  You could see it in the Open Class corps too.

The staffing changes kdaddy mentioned are perhaps part of the design issues, but I suspect the organization's resources were more significantly split between "making sure we still have an organization in 2022" than "pouring the resources in to make finals in 2022."

Given that they fielded a corps, ran a full tour across the entire continent, and provided an educational/training environment that got those kids to bring that show to life a bit more each performance this season, I'd say that's a good year.

As long as they've got the board built right and the leadership that got them to 2019, they'll rebound and gain their momentum.  That they're making change decisions seems to recognize the issues of this year and adjustments that need to be made.

Of course. Corps that have stable, well reputable staff, a solid administration, good food, good move-in location, nice busses etc draw in the best members, who will be the older ones, usually ones that marched other corps that didn't have any of the nice things. (Notice none of those things are props or electronics)

I wish people would stop acting like corps that figured out a way to raise money and provide an excellent member experience is somehow a bad thing.

I don’t think anyone is saying it’s a bad thing. It’s just a thing.

Mandarins has an incredible strong organizational structure (not to mention a long history) that has led them to where they are now.

Pacific Crest has significantly less resources, less history, and significantly less supporters/volunteers.

This is not a knock on PC at all - it's explaining why the comparison isn't exactly fair.

I think PC has a bit of a recruitment problem.  Some friends had a kid in SCVC and they said there were more people from Southern California marching SCVC than from Northern California.  I find that a little hard to believe, but all the kids I met when talking to him after a show were either from Southern California or going to college in Southern California (and were from out of state).
