Does anyone know if , when The Cadets and what was YEA parted ways, they were saddled with any YEA debt ?

As far as funding:

Corps like BD  have a built in revenue source from things like BINGO. Other corps as well as DCI aren't as fortunate.

Yet it seems those other corps, and well as  DCI , don't want hire people with a background Business or Marketing, especially for  non-profits , that could improve their financial situation.

This causes them to miss out on a number of marketing opportunities.

One small  example.

I own a small business in northern NJ.

Every year, back when they were still in NJ, The Cadets used to solicit ads for the programs for their shows from all local businesses.

From reading their programs, a lot of businesses, with no Drum Corps ties, took out ads.

Then they stopped.

I called to ask why  and was told it was up to me to contact them to place an ad.

Of course, even if corps or DCI did hire people with the right background, they would

have to be open to what they propose.

The funding model for a lot of corps and DCI seems to be  "keep going back to the same well"  (Alumni/Boosters) and asking for more money.

They also seem to follow the "kick the can down road" school of financing.

Just my $0.02.

They keep going back to the same well for funding, but give no thought to the "legacy fan" with their show designs. ...when that's the case, it's silence and blank stares...

You get what you give....

From what I've read , on 1/1/2023 Ohio will allow on line sports betting.

I presume it can be done with a mobile app.

I know in NJ , little while after allowing sports betting with a mobile app., NJ expanded mobile betting to include casino games.

If Ohio goes that way, I would think that this could put a dent in this revenue stream.

ehh - I'm not even sure about that anymore

The more I reflect on 22 the worse I think it was

Generally agreed. Hoping for much more interesting design choices from pretty much everyone next year.

it had moments. IMO i think SCV underwhelmed as much as Cavies, but no one is freaking out about that

Out of the top 5 only 3 impressed me with performance and a fresh/tight design (Boston & Bluecoats) - I was also surprised how poor some of the top 12 brass lines were at finals - basic tuning issue in a couple of the top 5 at FINALS (I can't recall that since 2000) and a couple others who were just very dirty finals week but made the top 12. A little shocking to me. SCV I think gets more of a pass as the visual side was much better than in the case of Cavaliers. JMO but 2022 was a rather weak year for the top 6

Can't wait for the staff announcements to get back on topic

well, they're allowed Tuesday - so this topic is not really a great idea to start right after finals.
