Performance coaching, used well, and given enough time, can be crucial. Otherwise each caption can only focus on how to make the performance of their caption alone strong. Notes from the box don't generally address individual performance beyond simple corrections... at least that's what I remember.

I think this role should evolve into a conventional dramaturg role, which would help not only with performance coaching but manifesting the design vision across captions. Dramaturgs, in my mind, are like fixers... they don't make design choices without the director, they facilitate their vision across departments.

There was an indoor show based on Dali that played with this a bit. Silks saying "This is not a flag", etc.
