I know you are kidding but I saw people get out of line and do that very thing.

I wish more folks would have been a little more skeptical and actually checked out the situation at the entrance.

I wish we had. I am glad you and others got in easily, and it is too bad anyone got blowback for going directly to entrance, but hopefully they understand the level of frustration of those in the line who thought they were doing the right thing.

am curious how the line wrapped around the corner got started - were people directed to do this, or did they do it spontaneously because there was no room on the sidewalks? In addition, it was DCI’s 50th anniversary, with plenty of older attendees, and not everyone has the stamina to walk down to the entrance to check things out and possibly return back to the line, especially knowing we have to walk around half the stadium once we get inside. Thank goodness it wasn’t scorching temperatures and wasn ‘t raining.

Bottom line: the onus should not be on the fans to figure out how to navigate a chaotic and potentially unsafe situation. It speaks volumes about how much DCI values their fan base.

Yes -- *somebody* (DCI or LOS) should have been in charge of "line communication".

-- Letting folks know Express lines were open for those w/o bags.

-- Trying to usher folks from the long line into the newly opened shorter lines at the East Gate.

I forgot my CompSci queuing theory, but I think one line that splits into multiple service lines (the old bank tellers analogy) works better than several separate long lines. It breaks down when folks don't know there are shorter lines ahead and just assume their line is all they got.

I was worried that a fight would break out with all the angry people. Thank goodness, it didn’t.

None of the fans were at fault in creating the situation, but that anger is inevitable and likely to be misdirected when the powers that be let a stressful, chaotic, and dangerous situation develop among the people who have paid them a lot of money, and then do nothing to resolve or defuse the situation. It speaks well of the fans that nothing worse happened - there is still some sense of community.

I have to say I wasn’t angry and I even started laughing.  It was almost like I expected it after the concessions.

Yes, someone was out trying to escort the INpact parents to the gates, so hopefully at least some of them got to see their kids perform.

LOS only had 7 scanning devices available. It was 100% not DCI.

And I call ########.  DCI only wants the one gate open (East Verizon) to funnel fans through the Marketplace.  It's been that way for years.  And it's happened at least twice this year: Denton Tx (UNT), & Murfreesboro, Tn (MTSU).  (I witnessed Murfreesboro first hand & saw the social media postings on FB about Denton.)  There may have been 7 scanners at the East gate; still not enough for that size crowd.

The MTSU home side was basically sold out & they only started with 3-4 scanners. Ridiculous.

I’m sorry you couldn’t attend but I hope you are feeling better now.

Thank you Terri, it was a long recovery, but glad it took place in the comfort of my home. I hope you had the opportunity to attend and take in all the Drum Corps Historic accomplishments made in one of the most competitive, nerve wracking placement battles and countless and "unprecedented" performance first, and returns to Finals, too many to list here. ENJOY!
