Finals 2022 -- Saturday's Attendance?

That is how it should be.  I understand wanting everyone to visit the Marketplace, but forcing them all through one entry point in pursuit of that objective takes two major risks:

1.  Safety.  It is finals.  This is the largest crowd of the season, and they want to get in on time.  All this focus on member safety, and no concern for spectator safety?

2.  Attendance.  Entry is restricted to the point of deterring people from attending.  Granted, most of your audience have paid in advance... but some of them will not bother next time if the venue has an established habit of not accommodating the crowd.  Are Marketplace dollars worth risking ticket dollars?

It reminds me of Las Vegas hotels and how they make you walk through the casino to get to the hotel, hoping you’ll drop some cash in the slots. 😂

Just like every supermarket, big box store or even a successful small mom and pop business. I took a master class in a specific small business, and it taught exactly how to do that, even with a pathway in carpeting and showed in demonstration how people didn't stray from the pathway much. The pathway purposely set to bring the customer past everything you wanted them to see. Was quite interesting to see it in action, and how it worked without people realizing it.

That is a significant revelation.  Can anyone corroborate that this is being done intentionally by DCI?

I thought that was pretty evident if you've ever attended Lucas Oil or several other shows through the summer.  The only Indy entrance gate is the East Verizon Gate on the 'visitor's' side.  They funnel traffic behind the visitor (East) side around through the North end zone which eventually takes you around to the home (West) side ticketed seating.  (I think there's a VIP entrance but I'm just a poor peasant with a Ticketmaster account.)

The vendor tables actually start at the East gate with the DCI Marketplace & most corps tables located at the North gate.  The main purpose of one single gate is to funnel traffic through the marketplace area & I'm sure to reduce/simplify staff.

Our school has hosted corps shows in the past & the DCI coordinator only wanted one entrance gate which led into the corps trailers.  (our stadium has 4 gates)  I've also witnessed this at most smaller shows & it's always been Gate #3 at Murfreesboro which is located on the visitor side corner end zone.  (The Murfreesboro home side was a "sell out"; the single gate entrance prompted a show step-off delay in addition to an eventual weather delay.).

The Memphis (Liberty Bowl) was also a single gate entrance which funnels fans through the corps booths.  But there wasn't a delayed entrance at that show.  I totally understand funneling the fans through the marketplace areas, but I think most fans who want to purchase merchandise are going to do so.  If it causes issues for entrance as in Murfreesboro, Denton, & Indy, open more than one entrance gate!

The North entrance (W South St) is perfect, but then you wouldn't see the Marine & Army booths located at the East gate.  But it looked to me like there were some areas available to move some of those vendors or they could put up some signal signs directing fans to those vendors?

I stopped at the marketplace once to buy tickets on Thursday and that was it.  Strategy didn’t work on the T.

Only a new Troopers shirt for me; the traditional one!

(And I would have found their booth even if I'd entered the West gate.)

Their motive was not evident.  And so many people here attributed it to stupidity, lack of manpower, or too cheap to pay LOS to open another gate, that I forgot all about the idea of forcing everyone to run the Marketplace gauntlet.

Thanks for filling in the details.  Honestly, we had corps booths at both ends of the championship stadium for so many years that I just assumed they still did it that way.

My experience has been different.  I do recall some shows like you describe, where choice of entrance and position of corps booths was obviously contrived even if it tripled the walk from the lot and quintupled the crowding getting in (kind of an odd thing to be doing during a pandemic... but I digress).  Meanwhile, some other shows had the corps booths clear on the opposite end of the stadium from the entry point.
