What I Like about where drum corps is going and ...

In all answers, please be nice and don't call out specific corps unless it's a compliment.

Fan comfort:  This was my first time at the Oil Can.  I really liked the air conditioning and comfy seats.

Judges:  I like having the judges on the sidelines.  They do an excellent job judging show and both judges and marching members are safe.

Narration:  Even though some corps do it well and for some corps it helps move the show along, I don't like narration.

Singing:  See Narration ^^^

One thing stands out for me.

Didn't see much this summer, but I like the trend of at least several DCI corps going in a more "fun for the fans" direction. Crown, for me, is the best example here for 2022. There are others from recent years.

I spent the majority of my drum corps career around DCA corps, and got used to "fun" shows. Nice to see the DCI corps getting the memo.

Ironically, and IMO only, several of the DCA groups now need to play catch-up here. For whatever reason, the script has been flipped.

Narration detracts from 2 things 1 ability of audience to concentrate on the music 2 seems like it lets the corp off the hook to transmit the theme to audience through music and design.

You are much more articulate than I am about narration.  I agree with you on both counts.

I just don't like go to a drum corps show and be lectured to about such things as "I can do better."  It's patronizing and condescending at the same time.
