kevingamin
We’re trying to find out if Freelancers and Star United flip flopped in the schedule. Even Box5 Media didn’t know about the change.
kevingamin
No visual for this performance, but that’s more than made up for with the sound, which is very well balanced.
kevingamin
Trumpet soloist out front as we come into the close of Thriller. I really miss the CD recordings for DCA. This is a great chart I’d love to hear again. Baritone with a wicked lip trill on the end of Thriller!
kevingamin
Lovely ballad. They gave the name, but I can’t recall it. Middle horns are lush during this section, as is the trumpet soloist, a significant change from the opener, almost chorale in nature. kevingamin
Excellent end to the ballad as well, with a quartet of a trumpet, mello, and two baris. Now to finish strong. One More Time, Chuck Corea. Very appropriate with the return of DCA to Rochester, Chick Corea’s home.
kevingamin
Nice octave split between the trumpets and the mellos!
kevingamin
All through this performance, the trap set player has been NAILS, including this great drum break before a HUH grunt from the horns and and a trumpet and mello pair trading off solos. kevingamin
Make that a trio, two trumpets and a mello.
kevingamin
And throw in a screamer trumpet for the last top note before everybody else comes in.
kevingamin
And Wayne Downey Ending #2…or #3…I lost count back in ‘82. Excellent finish to an excellent show, Freelancers!
