While the “arms race” of props, new uniforms each year, new instruments, etc… is a contributing factor to rising costs, i think we really need to explore an area of exploding costs: STAFF.

Designers, consultants, advisors, and (in some sections) more techs then MMs.

it has to be curtailed.

That is a great point. There are waaay too many staff members. Drum corps need to right size.

Granted, I feel sorry for those who were "all in", as you say, because they spent money and effort already, but if they really want the DCI experience, they'll make it work.

A talented and motivated person will just start this month paying money to their new top 5-8 corps.  Those top 5-8 corps may hold off on offering contracts or additional contracts to see if they hear from a SCV member.  Even though it was 21 and no judging, some corps who performed took in members from corps who took the year off.  Some of those members might not have gone back to their 2019 corps.

Bottom line is this is really sad to read and possibly, as mentioned by others, could be the start of other corps to be realistic about their future.

In another thread, it was mentioned that many corps do not pay for their uniforms/equipment.

Anyone have a favorite show or memory they want to share?

I have plenty of opinions about the folding of my own house, but tonight, I'd prefer to mourn rather than pick at the carcass.

Hopefully it’s just a hiatus and not a folding.

As to your first question, I loved touring along side them in ‘91 when I was a rookie in Sky Ryders. That was a seriously cool show.

I went to my 1st drum corps show at the age of 14 and had no idea what I was watching.

After a full year of high school marching band, I went back to the same show in 1987. Seeing 87 SCV live was the transformative event. As the experience washed over me I knew in that moment that I HAD TO march drum corps. That entire mid-season show is on YouTube and I am fortunate to have marched drum corps, and to be able relive the memory on video over and over again. Here is the Russian Christmas Music encore from that very night. Jump to 36:30.
