drumcorpsfever
In light of SCV not fielding a 2023 corps: DCI on DCI.org looks like business as usual. Other than links to corps news on DCI.org, where is DCI in this? SCV going dark in 2023 is one of the biggest stories for DCI since its inception. This event not only will reduce appeal to the DCI product on the field, but threatens the existence of, arguably, the greatest unit in the activity. SCV’s woes are not the same of so many corps that went out of business before them. DCI is on life-support and drastic measures are needed for its survival. It’s time for DCI to break out of BAU operation and transform the activity. You’re DCI, what would you do? Algernon
When you say "DCI", what do you mean? DCI IS THE CORPS. they are the governing body. The office, including Dan A., have little authority to enact sweeping structural changes to the activity. When one the so-called leaders of DCI - one that for years bragged about having the highest staff payroll - goes inactive, the only action it triggers is the feeding frenzy by the other corps to pick at the carcass.

DCI BoD has gone on for years with corps folding and pretty much went 🤷🏻 it’s not us (us being corps on the board). Will be interesting to see if they do some hard looking at their situation. Question: since SCV isn’t coming out this year, does that mean they have to give up their seat on the board? BradF
SCV doesn't have a representative on the board. https://www.dci.org/static/dci-board-of-directors
IllianaLancerContra
DCI (both board & front office) is world-class at burying their head in the sand, not seeing a problem, and then assuming all is well. DCI talks about transparency, but sand doesn't get transparent until the temp reaches 3100F. Apparently not that hot yet.

It’s time for DCI to break out of BAU operation and transform the activity. You’re DCI, what would you do? Respectfully, I strenuously disagree with your assertions. SCV'S financial failure, while a shame, is not going to reduce the appeal of the entire activity. And, it is disingenuous to suggest that somehow, DCI or its member corps are at fault. Santa Clara made its own financial decisions, not the least of which is having a huge payroll and supporting two full size drum corps. As for them being "the greatest unit in the activity" the fact that they are unable to pay their bills calls that into question. This past week or so, I get the feeling that in some peoples minds, because this happened to SCV, it is the death knell of the activity. It is not. And as far as what DCI or it's member corps should do, the answer is nothing other than to run their organizations the best they can. 12
Lance
there is no governing body for DCI other than the governing body that pretends it isn't a governing body when it's inconvenient and is a governing body when it is convenient not sure the damage needing to controlled is as widespread as the OP implies, and even if it were, individual corps and DCI's (however you define it) first instinct is to ignore damage or sweep it under the rug TLDR:

jjeffeory
DCI isn't a big corporation with a public facing PR department that spends hours each day working on PR news. Yes, we're supposed to believe this is all put together professionally, but end the end it's a semi-professional outfit working on a shoestring budget, and so are all the "educational" organizations. We've put too much trust in "systems" that have proven to break down over the years.... Yeah, maybe a bit cynical, but here's SCV gone and no word from DCI. Seemed like there was more word when Star of Indiana left the activity.
