DCA competing in DCI

Recommended Posts

I saw in DCA annual meeting notes in Drum Corp World magazine that the 2 circuits are more in collaboration. The recent DCA rule on show timing aligns with Soundsport criteria. Is this helpful to DCA or is it the beginning of it all under 1 DCI circuit umbrella? Just curious.

i think right now at least it's just working together and trying to give corps performance opportunities. many judges work both circuits so there's familiarity with the sheets

We (DCA corp) have so many members wanting to experience DCI that performing at these events is something our members really want

i think it's great. we used to have many shows in the east that had both DCA and DCi corps in it.

If you're a corps outside of NJ or PA, your opportunities are very limited for DCA shows.  Often the shows of DCA in your area have perhaps 2-3 corps in some cases, or your other option is virtual shows.  Where you record your show and send it in for evaluation.

Even in NJ we have shows with only 5 groups.  (see rant about operations and placement of intermission in another thread)  So if you want to provide opportunities for your members where they have larger crowds, and more performance opportunities in general, you'll take what your options are.  This doesnt always work if DCI comes through your city on a tuesday or wednesday, but if you can do it, there's no reason not to.  Its a performance op for your members and exposure for your ensembles in a very niche activity.

Would cohosting a DCI/DCA show make an event more lucrative and easier to run? Could it facilitate DCA growth outside of the Northeast?

Drum corps Midwest used to have DCA groups in their shows.  Some shows out east have a few DCA groups there.  I think you need to time it right for the weekend to make it beneficial.

and feedback from DCI judges is always a nice thing to get. as i said several do judge for both places, but good judges can adapt to any sheets they work, even DCA's goofy GE/Communication sheets
