Just an idea, SCV

Heck, if the goal is to make $ outside of CA, SCV should go to Vegas & open a hotel / casino.   Doesn’t need to be Drum Corps theme, but maybe one nod could be restaurant called ‘Miss Amana’s’.  And they could take bets on DCI at the sports book.

I'm absolutely down for a drum corps theme hotel

The only problem is that's Texas....

I don't see the problem with Cavies moving to the greatest state of the land..... unless they are concerned about me popping up randomly at their headquarters.

.......... or trying to sneak into their meetings on show design.

VMAPA has already established a "Vanguard Texas Affiliate" to explore this to a degree, which I've brought up elsewhere. But I don't get the sense that they want to move operations, or change the name or identity. Rather, it's to establish bingo operations in the state and take advantage of the more business friendly tax/oversight landscape in Texas. (Gross. This is one of the reasons I left Texas. Poor employee rights protections.)

I've been told that half of Vanguard in 2022 was from Texas. More than have of SCVC was not from the Bay Area directly near SCV HQ. And surely a corps based in the middle of the country would make logistics easier. So I get it. But even I don't want to see a DFW Vanguard, and thems my stomping grounds. Most of my family is still there.

I'd much rather SCV fixed their operations and revenue streams for good and stayed home in Santa Clara. Plenty of businesses and nonprofits are doing just fine in Cali.

I can't think of a single alum who would welcome such a move anyway. Not that it's up to us. Besides, I don't think Cali drum corps are ready for Texas band director egos. Many of those cats frighten the parents of their students into compliance like dictators. Have fun with that.....

I do have some insights on this and I definitely get ya.

I made no secret that I worked with HEB 3 years ago (well, when I left). I was with them for 6 and a half years and I can say the first 3 to 4 years was fantastic. It started to go down-hill when new employees (yes, I dislike the partner motion they promote... there is no such thing as partners with that company) started to gain benefits and vacation time. I was with the company for years, worked my butt off, and wasn't granted anything. I attempted to solve it at the store level, nothing happened, so I went to HR. I obviously won my case and was granted benefits and vacation time (I was working full time hours). This gave me a lot of backlash at my store. From people talking behind my back, false accusations, and it got to the point where I mentally started to crash due to confusion at the work place. So, when my father offered me some land... I took it. I had a job offer, but COVID-19 hit and I didn't get it. But I'm happy where I'm at now and I'm being treated so much better. Is HEB bad though? Ehhhh it depends on the stores management and who you work with. I shop at my local HEB from time to time. The store brand product isn't bad at all. But I will never forget what they did to me.

I can easily say there are directors in Texas that really only care, sadly, about themselves. There is a way to be firm and be passionate, but some just don't care... they just look at it as a point in time for a resume point. It's sad

I had one really awful teacher in college... really bad
