Ben who was at that time a Euph soloist and he walked over the props to "No Walk to Far" I don't know how bad his condition with Covid was, but he still did a great job with every show. I had no idea he was going to pick up a trombone and do great solos for the next 2 years. Then there was girl in the back of the van I had to ask her what her name was since I wasn't sure what her role was in the corps. She said her name was Kari and she was the backfield drum major/conductor. I had to watch the show to see what she did so that I could recognize her on the field. She also walked over the props and changed uniforms at the end. She was always smiling until my driving began to make her scowl angerly sometimes. Anyway that fall I saw that she was becoming the main conductor. I thought how is Kari ever going to measure up to Geneva with the hair flip and all her great conducting. Well it seems she lived up to that and probably exceeded her as Conductor. I think the ponytail baton pull probably made most folks stop thinking about the hair flip. Even though Kari got good at the scowl and seemed pretty mean from the DM stand she was always very nice to me, and I know she helped a lot of mms with a lot of things that the world at large does not see. Your two covid passengers are also a couple, so they may have found love on your van. You deserve at least some credit, I'd say...

I lost, but not by much! Ha! I may have contributed to your close loss. When I got in the stadium at Muncie, I immediately went to the Crown tent before it got crowded for a hoodie that wasn't purple. (Purple would make me look like Barney.) 😁 I have several black Phantom Ts & hoodies, but have never had a Crown hoodie. I hadn't found a hoodie that wasn't purple, but this year they had a gray color. Anyway, thank you for a wonderful season! Y'all blew my "mynd". ❤️🖤 Edited August 14 by keystone3ply cx

There was only one member who had been with the corps longer than I was involved. It was Sydney and she started in 2019 when PR was a 12th place corps. Fortunately she survived that season and made it to this year and a 4th place corps. She was the Horn Sergeant for 2 years and she was the trombone soloist in 2022. She also had the job of hooking up the trailer for the Taylor Dunn to my van. She had wanted to follow a PR Alum and play Euphonium in the USMC D&B Corps but I think she is now going to pursue a career in Diplomacy an all around great person. There were a lot of other great age outs, but these were the ones I knew the best and that left lasting impressions with me. I am sure they will make great impact in the world as thier lives go forward Love these stories. Kari's scowl is fantastic but like any good teacher (which you know she's gonna be) she knows how to turn it off and on to great effect. How awesome that someone who marched when PR was 'on the brink' still got to be a part of this new resurgence!

How awesome that someone who marched when PR was 'on the brink' still got to be a part of this new resurgence! Keri was FIERCE as a performer. She also is an enormous role model to my own nieces (more so the younger one, the little girl that went viral for conducting behind Keri during Elsa's at Show of Shows 2023, also much to Robert W. Smith's delight). It was an honor to have been part of two seasons with Keri as lead conductor. Sidney was touted as "The Last of the Joans" this season for her status as the only member who had been with the corps since 2019. Coincidentally, she was also the last member to have ridden on the bus with me when I last drove member buses (for the moment, I may return eventually). I was able to give her a hug and congratulate her on her accomplishments as an age-out member of the corps.

Imagine a summer or two more boning up those already nasty good chops.
