Yes I agree but Crown is stronger in the music captions and that will keep them ahead of Regiment.

Are you following me? 🙂

Yes, I would agree with you. I just don't know anything at all about percussion, so whether Regiment or Crown's lines are better, I could not say.

You're not following me. It's Brass, Music Analysis and percussion, just not percussion.

No, I understand that. I know what comprises Music.

What I mean is if I were a percussion expert, I could conclude that Regiment had a shot to beat Crown in percussion, which depending on Crown's placement in percussion could put Regiment closer to Crown in Music. Close enough where if they did top them in GE and/or Visual they could beat them.

I love PR and their percussion book this year. Good content, more mature and confident approach to the drums and to the different listening environments throughout the show. BUT.....Crown has a better front ensemble book from everything I've heard and is just a tad better in their moments in front of the judges right now. Percussion is going to be VERY competitive this year. The talent level just keeps going up. If I were going to guess I might actually have BAC as the cleanest line at the moment to my ears.

My real curiosity is who's going to win guard. I'm still learning a LOT about how the guard caption works scoring wise (only took me 37 years to decide to pay attention....)

That's right, but you have to consider who was at each show and what needs to come between Bluecoats and Regiment.

Night 1 it was just Bluecoats in 1st in all captions and Regiment 2nd.

Night 2 it was Bluecoats in 1st (overall) and Devils, Boston and Crown between them and Regiment.

The gap was narrower Night 1 because all judges had to do was put Bluecoats in first and Regiment in 2nd. Getting the gap right in those captions wasn't really significant. The judges didn't have to worry that they were going to have to, likely, fit corps between Bluecoats and Regiment.

The gap was wider Night 2 because, for example, the judges that put Bluecoats 1st and Regiment 5th had to fit Devils, Crown and Boston in between Bluecoats and Regiment, whereas on Night 1 they didn't. Therefore, the spread in almost every caption had to be bigger between Bluecoats and Regiment to have space for the other three to fit in between them. This really applies to any caption Bluecoats beat Regiment, which I think was all.

I doesn't mean Regiment didn't have a good show or regressed. It's just what happens.

This happened last year with Devils and the other top 4. When one of those four was with just Devils, the gap was much narrower, when all four were together the gap between Devils and the 2nd place corps was wider.

I follow what you’re saying, but maybe then those groups should be bunched in that 2 point gap. If they are that good 3 days ago then give them credit for it.

I dunno.  Playing a lot of notes and playing music can be 2 separate and vastly different things.  I think PR layering with the music on the field and between the battery and the front is better.

Oh they're absolutely different and when it's right it's right. 2023 Bloo is a good example. The FE book was exquisite. I said in a different thread (probably the PR one,) that there is a lot of the FE book that I simply cannot hear in their current mix when the whole corps is in ensemble. And that may be part of why I feel the way I do about it.

Yeah, maybe. It's like how the lower placing corps scores always drop in finals from quarterfinals and semifinals. It's just stupid but it's how it works.

Amplification has a big target on its back. It must be right. Every. Time. No exceptions. Too many oops moments in audio tonight. It has to be transparent or it takes you right out of the show.
