Jeff Ream
i think it was Columbus Saints, an all age corps were trying to get involved in HBCU programs?
ykw
I don't know if Cadets/CBrass still look to HBCUs for talent -- or was this more of an initiative of corps director(s) since removed? https://cadets.org/culture-cbrass

Iirc their director marched Chicago Hornets, which were about 1/2 HCBU, 1/2 Drum Corps. It was tick era so they didn’t score well on execution, but crowds loved them. waliman4444
When I marched, we thought the HBCU style was "corny"(1960's) but with the anything goes movement in Drum corps today , it doesn't seem as corny as I once thought.peace
waliman4444
If only the Cadets sought HBCU recruits, is it fair to suggest that economics, not talent, has prevented greater participation from these schools in DCI?..And if this is a yes, is the future of DCI limited to those only, with significant discretionary money...OR has this always been the case since the touring model was adopted ?.peace

Used to be local shows every weekend through mid July with 1-3 big DCI Corps and several smaller local ones. But DCI mandated tour from late June-Aug pulled away DCI & DCI wannabe Corps. DCM held on for a few years, and then was no more. 1
Brian Tuma
Bluecoats had an HBCU scholarship fund I donated to. I don’t know if they still do. I haven’t gotten a request in a couple years.
