It'd be a fools errand to discount Crown's brass. I don't think anyone is doing that. The only thing I've seen is people saying BAC was doing to win percussion. I know nothing about percussion so a comment from me on that would be pointless, but I haven't seen anyone saying it's over for Crown's brass.

If I had to put $100 down on who I think it's going to win the Ott, I'd place that bet on Crown. I think the other lines are fully competent to win brass as well, but I'd still put my money on Crown. I may lose that $100, but it's the bet I would make.

I think Bloos brass is hot this year. I know Crown will tighten up their problem areas in high brass…that seems to be the weak spot right now.

Carolina Crown - Of course they sound amazing, one of my favorite openers of the year.  Everything firing at that first impact is perfection.  Love the Wall-E front ensemble moment, great writing.  Percussion weakness (don't care what the sheets say, they sound night and day compared to pre covid) are a thing of the past.  The through thematic line of the show is still a big question mark for me, and not sure adding costumes and characters is gonna fix that.  The Mackey is the biggest problem to me, the pacing and development of that piece is really off-putting, it sounds like someone who hasn't written for drum corps before.  The added chunk compared to last time didn't help that either.  I see people that say they're just not getting rewarded for marching and playing more than anyone else, but I don't think that's the case.  There's some serious pacing and programming issues right now.  Can they be ironed out?  Yes.  We shall see.

That added chunk was a surprise bc it was there in Little Rock two days ago. I get the impression they’ve somehow chopped it up and rolling out segments which is why it doesn’t flow perfectly yet. Parts sound really good. I think we need to see a final product before can determine if it’s a hit or miss.

Great assessment. It was a great night for drum corps. I had such an enjoyable evening, but how did you people in CST and EST do it? I was like, "Oh my God, it's 10:00 pm and I'm not in bed yet." LOL.

I crawled into bed just past midnight EST...and I had a 7am breakfast with a friend. I am impressed by my commitment level to both DCI and that friendship. I'll sleep on August 11th.

And this is why my first inclination is to always say "no" when anyone asks me to do anything.

Well Crown has been proven the corps to beat in brass, like BD has been proven the corps to beat overall IMO.

Living in isolation got me into too much trouble when I was younger. I find that it's in my best interest to force myself to be social.

I force myself once a week to do something social and that's enough, LOL.

Crown will rise to the challenge. Bloo is a serious contender for the Ott this year too.

Another thought from last night that isn't meant to be snarky, but it was nevertheless a thought...

Sometimes two corps play the same tune the same year. And especially depending on design, experience, talent of members, and how it's used, among others, one will seem clearly superior to the other.

A couple examples:

- Strawberry Soup in 93. I like the Scouts version, but it ain't BD.

- Blue Shades in 99. SCV's version blew me away compared to Xmen (a Klesch arrangement btw).

- And now Agape in 24. If Doug Thrower is going to arrange a tune in a given summer, check and revise your own rep...
