That's my take-away as well. Yes, I hope they can get ahead of Santa Clara, and yes, I want them to catch Phantom Regiment, but if it doesn't happen I'll still be thrilled with their show and their progress.

Well they are 4-4 against Vanguard so the two of them are going to be battling for 6th all season. I just don't see either beating Regiment at this point. Still, Mandarins show is a step up from last year even if they dropped a place to 7th and that bodes better for their future than not doing the step up in demand and complexity and finishing the same or higher.

Sometimes two corps play the same tune the same year. And especially depending on design, experience, talent of members, and how it's used, among others, one will seem clearly superior to the other. A couple examples: - Strawberry Soup in 93. I like the Scouts version, but it ain't BD. - Blue Shades in 99. SCV's version blew me away compared to Xmen (a Klesch arrangement btw). - And now Agape in 24. If Doug Thrower is going to arrange a tune in a given summer, check and revise your own rep... This wouldn’t have been snarky if you hadn’t added the commentary at the very end which was clearly meant to be snarky. 🤷🏻♂️

With the exception of the Mandarins and BAC (and theirs is coming hopefully sooner than later) every corps that performed last night is a world champion at the world class level. Mandarins are winning just being on the same field with the big dawgs. Last night Mandarins beat the 7-time champs Cavaliers for the 11th straight time. Mandarins are currently tied 4-4 season series with 7-time champ SCV. 2-time champ PR beat the Mandarins for the first time last night since August of 2022. And earlier this year, maybe the most impressive thing, Mandarins were 0.1 behind BD head to head in GE1 Achievement. Mandarins have proven they belong in the top 7. I believe next year their recruiting numbers will top this year. Sacramento is becoming a destination choice for WC Performers. And lastly, let's not forget they have a Director in J. W. Koester that has sat at the top of the mountain as a DCI Champion. SCV and PR fans know what i am talking about. Koester knows what it looks like, and what it takes to build a champion level corps. And he is building one right now in Sacramento. Just think, ten years ago to the day, Mandarins were 20 points behind BD. Five years ago to the day, Mandarins were nine points behind BD. As of last night, they are now on the same field performing with BD and the rest DCIs best at one of the biggest shows of the year. Mandarins aren't going anywhere. They are here to stay. As long as they have JW they are going to move up in the rankings, over the long term. I was just saying if they place 7th this year it is still a step forward, because it is.

That statement was clearly presented as praise for a next-level brass arranger. Any snark you infer is your own.
keystone3ply
I guess the BA replay starts at the same time of 8:00pm CT? I guess we can see if the results will be the same as last night. 🤷♂️😁 Edited July 18 by keystone3ply cx
