jwillis35
1 hour ago, Chief Guns said: With the exception of the Mandarins and BAC (and theirs is coming hopefully sooner than later) every corps that performed last night is a world champion at the world class level. Mandarins are winning just being on the same field with the big dawgs. Last night Mandarins beat the 7-time champs Cavaliers for the 11 straight time. Mandarins are currently tied 4-4 season series with 7-time champ SCV. 2-time champ PR beat the Mandarins for the first time last night since August of 2022. And earlier this year, maybe the most impressive thing, Mandarins were 0.1 behind BD head to head in GE1 Achievement. Mandarins have proven they belong in the top 7. I believe next year their recruiting numbers will top this year. Sacramento is becoming a destination choice for WC Performers. And lastly, let's not forget they have a Director in J. W. Koester that has sat at the top of the mountain as a DCI Champion. SCV and PR fans know what i am talking about. Koester knows what it looks like, and what it takes to build a champion level corps. And he is building one right now in Sacramento. Just think, ten years ago to the day, Mandarins were 20 points behind BD. Five years ago to the day, Mandarins were nine points behind BD. As of last night, they are now on the same field performing with BD and the rest DCIs best at one of the biggest shows of the year. Mandarins aren't going anywhere. They are here to stay. This is a great look into the progress this corps has made. Sometimes we get all wrapped up in the current summer's competitive status and we forget to just sit back and enjoy the progress made and the great performances by the members. Mandarins have always been good. I can remember seeing them decades ago. But they were nothing like they are these days. The last 5 or 6 competitive seasons for them have been incredible. Their show last year was top notch. They have done it again. They honestly have one of the better designed shows on the field. I can see why at one show their GE 1 score was close to BD. Their show definitely oozes GE, music and visual. SCV is back and Mandarins are hanging with them and sometimes beating them. That's huge. And next season I fully expect Mandarins to be in the hunt for top 6 and maybe top 5. Once you get into the top echelon of DCI it is more difficult to nudge upward. You now have to contend with the likes of the famous Blue Devils or Bluecoats, Boston or Carolina. That's a tall order, yet the Mandarins are hanging around reminding people that they belong in the top echelon of DCI. I don't think people truly realize how difficult a task this is.

But if it did they would be back next year with ice in their veins and a killer program. Come to think of it they'll do that anyway, whatever their placement. 3
