Jurassic Lancer
8 hours ago, jwillis35 said: Here are some observations from last night now that I have had some sleep. That show was fantastic! Wish I was there. Every corps layed it out there, even Cavaliers who are improving. Is this more of a top 3 this year? My thinking now is yes. I think Carolina is really good and I almost always love their music, brass and drums. And their guard did well last night. Maybe they can jump back into the race for Gold but for now I think it will come down to Bloo, BD, and Boston. Captions: GE 1 and 2 were the only captions I knew would go to Bluecoats. I think the top 3 have amazing GE shows so this will be close down the stretch. In Visual Guard it's probably going to be Boston or Blue Devils, but Bloo and Carolina can factor in. Phantom and Mandarins have outstanding guards as well. In Visual Proficiency I could see it being Bloo, BD, or Boston. In Visual Analysis I could see any of the top 3 as well. I would not have been shocked if Boston won Brass. I was so impressed with their performance. If BD won I would not be surprised. No surprise with Bluecoats getting it last night. Obviously Carolina will be heard from in the brass caption. In percussion it seems we have a slew of corps gunning for the top. Boston has been on fire lately, but Blue Devils have a killer line. Bluecoats too. They took 2nd last night. Santa Clara is going to factor into this as well. Plus I think Phantom and Carolina have good lines, and who knows if Cavaliers get clicking again and jump into the top 3 or 4 by season's end. Can Bluecoats win it all come Finals? Yes, but they can't lose ground in any of the performance captions. Guard was 4th last night, but not by much. Brass won, percussion was 2nd and visual proficiency was 1st so everything was good on that front. But as BD cleans, and Boston, Bloo will at least have to stay in the mix and then make up the difference in Visual and GE. Part of me thought Boston was going to come in 2nd and take high brass, percussion and guard. Their performance strength is REALLY good. Visual should be a strength for them too. They just need to get that closer to pop and I honestly do not think they are finished with the new ending. This should help GE. My personal favorite is the Bluecoats this year. I am rooting for them to win it all, but I absolutely love Boston's show and also Blue Devils show. Blue Devils give me goosebumps when they are purring on all cylinders, and this Boston corps has a wonderful show and can perform with anyone. What a top 3. I was shocked Cavaliers were not too far away from Mandarins. I feel Cavaliers made some nice changes but so much more is needed. I'm rooting for them to make something out of this show. I know the members will perform the heck out of it come the end. Can Mandarins close the gap with Phantom? I was somewhat surprised by that considering how close Mandarins have been with SCV. Time will tell, but Phantom will be touch to catch. I think Phantom is closer to Crown than the score last night reflected. In terms of total show design I think Phantom is much stronger than Carolina. But Phantom will have to clean and hope they can come close in percussion and brass or guard. I was kind of expecting Phantom to be anywhere from .8 to 1.2 from Crown last night. Great analysis! Thank you
