DrumManTx
I am not qualified to judge so I'll just talk about what I like 🙂 BD and BAC always exceptional. Bluecoats silver flag thing and the long blue silks in the ballad are spectacular and unique. Love Crowns opening flag feature. Phantom Regiment silk design is on point. Mandarins are absurdly fun, the audible toss at the end of their opener is so nasty it should be illegal (that is a compliment). SCV mega flags are cool. Do love Cavaliers costuming. Blue Stars are as absurd as ever, book is ridiculous. Colts very well integrated and staged and clean. Troopers MUCH better, silk design is great too. Haven't seen Crossmen yet but sure they're solid. And Pacific Crest skirts/chain flags are dope. Lots to like this year!

I am glad you noticed! That is an insane moment that caused alot of oohs and ahhs when I saw them live. Some lady near me in San Bernardino said that is some BD level stuff. Mandarins guard might be the slept on unit in drum corps this year. Edited July 16 by Chief Guns

I only watched Mandarins once this season so far and they are always one my favorites. Right now they don’t have the same level of difficulty/content as BD and BAC. They could get to that by finals but that would be a surprise. A welcomed one. Edited July 16 by Den8uml

They still have a way to go. But if there was a unit that could crash the top four by finals, keep an eye on the Mandarins guard.
KVG_DC
CrownGuard's book is incredibly enjoyable this year as well. I feel they're far from done with what the guard will do to tell that story as well.
dcikon2
I think there are 4 guards a notch above other corps: Bluecoats, Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown, and Blue Devils. I do have a pet peeve with a couple corps that constantly are moving equipment around the field instead of doing equipment work.

Bloo or BAC can wrest it from them, but it is BD’s to lose. Crown’s guard is unmistakably elite, and deserves to be in the conversation.

Taking huge risks starting with big isolated tosses from count -5 lol They are SO well coordinated, after watching their family night performance, I fell in love. I hope they win it all this year tbh, my favorite Bluecoats ever! They have had one of the BEST FLAG LINES in DCI for a long minute too. That team can absolutely win the Zingali, they certainly have their own style and seeing how consistent they've become with their weapons, they are definitely on the map! My only worry are the big crazy tricks BD and BAC are doing, it might give them more credit over time once everyone is clean. Bloo has some big advanced skills too, and I hope they get credit for them. I do think the guard has more room for bigger performance qualities and communication- I think that's the one thing their guard competitors have over them- the confidence from the whole team. I would love to see their personalities, they are GREAT technically and I want them to LIVE! They can be the best guard in DCI and make history for the program, they need to believe it's possible. I certainly do! Agreed. As I have gotten more and more involved in watching gaurds (thanks @scheherazadesghost,) I would be VERY curious to learn how CG is scored in detail. I never paid attention when I was marching really.

That was lovely. I like to think of that as their homage to The Cadets. ❤️ To Tame the Perilous Skies, 1992 had a silent flag feature. 5

That would be incredibly thoughtful! There is no doubt The Cadets organization had an immense impact on the growth of DCI and continues to do so. Many of the best and most influential musicians, educators and designers in our activity stemmed from that incredible drum corps.
