If you are performing in box 5 you shouldn’t be. That’s the point of box 5. If you have to count (out loud, many mm’s) to get your timing correct, you’re not at box 5 level. Yeah and can the dut dut’s too. And singing isn’t the same. No one is singing their entire show.
troopsaber1114
Counting and dutting are good but there's really no reason for it to ever be loud enough for the audience to hear. That being said I personally haven't heard any counting during a show in a few years (can't say the same for dutting)

I get that. Guess I should have clarified, I wouldn't have a problem if some corps did (yes, tactfully of course) And heaven help us the day corps do sing the entire show. That's when I find a new hobby.
OldSnareDrummer
Here's a guard question. Something I didn't even notice until Saturday. SCV goes for what seems like and probably is, 5 full minutes with no flags whatsoever. They dance and roll around some, but no silks at all going on. For a propless corps that looks already looks small (to me anyway) on the field, how can they visually get away with that? That's got to be costing them, no? That's nearly half of the whole show. And they were 6th in SA. And about the same in GE.

SCV has incredible moments and I believe their guard is utilized really cleverly in the overall design, especially since they don't have props - staging and programming is super exposed and the show has depth. It's also probably why they chose such vivid costume colors for contrast. Not spinning doesn't mean they aren't exhibiting movement skills or contributing to the overall program- this is absolutely "trending"- a few years ago Vandegrift HS won BOA with nothing but dancers and swing flags... This even trickled into other TX programs who considered getting rid of their color guards and sticking to dancers alone - and an argument to that was to be more competitive and cost effective! 💀 That is OBVIOUSLY crazy!!! My point being, movement matters now- dance technique and skills are contributing to guard indoors and outdoors now more than ever.

I’m guessing your reply was really meant as a response to OldSnareDrummers post? My comment was that with the query about their content, they were still ranked 6th in SA.
jjeffeory
Thanks for the best run yet! I'm talking overall run, not just the guard, mom. Edited July 24 by jjeffeory
