There’s a story here. A long time ago, there was a show in Murphysboro, Illinois. I’m sure @Sutasaurus and @OldSnareDrummer remember. Maybe @IllianaLancerContra, too but he’s younger than we are. For years after they started having this show, I called it Murphysboro. I’m cured now. Old habits die hard. 5 6 1 Quote

I might need a jacket for the evening. 1 2 Quote

Also, keep in mind that on the NOAA/NWS forecasts, the dividing point between the daytime period and the nighttime period is 00 UTC, which (in CDT) is 7 pm. 2 Quote

I've always wondered about that. I like the Accuweather, as well as some other sources, hour by hour forecast. The NWS makes you work a little more for their version & it's really detailed with charts, etc. Of course, the forecast is always changing with updates. The problem as described by our local meteorologist, is this stationary boundary that has set up in the Southeast. It's opened the Gulf of Mexico for business & all of these storms are tracking like a train along the boundary. I think the good news for Murfreesboro is they are above the boundary but I think Atlanta may be on or slightly below the boundary? At least that's what it looks like on the national model. But I'm just a layman so what do I know except what they're telling me. 🤷♂️ I do have a former student who is a meteorologist at the NOAA office in Nashville. I need to send her a message to ask about Murfreesboro. 🤔 Edited July 25, 2024 by keystone3ply cx 3 Quote

I need to send her a message to ask about Murfreesboro. 🤔 I've worked for the NWS for 34 years, so I'm happy to provide any insight into the forecasts and forecast process. My home area is central Alabama, and I usually defer to the office where a show is taking place for the official forecast. But once you get within 12 hours of a show, you can transition from "forecast" to "nowcast," which is essentially looking at the computer models less and looking "out the window" (or radar trends, current conditions, etc.) more. Getting back on topic -- the forecast for Mufreesboro is indeed a bit more optimistic than the Birmingham and Atlanta shows. 30-40 percent rain chances there at this time of year are essentially just like a Florida summer forecast; showers develop in the afternoon, it rains for an hour or so, and then you go on with your life. Let's hope any showers come through well ahead of the start of the event. I'm actually pretty optimistic about this one. 1 3 Quote
