Post drum corp withdrawals….

Recommended Posts

I was just reading an article about post Olympic depression or withdrawal and was wondering if this applies also to drumcorp. Obviously the Olympics is different because it’s every 4 years but it’s a serious issue that affects athletes.

I have my *ahem* totally NOT audio files to keep me company today.  It helps with Drum Corps delirium tremens (DCDT should be an official diagnosis).

And this year is a joy really. Usually there's like 2 or 3 earworms that become welcome intrusive thoughts in my head at season's end.

This year there are SO MANY MORE.

For MMs, definitely.
For staff, volunteers, and other org people, it’s season on for design, recruiting, fundraising, tour planning, fleet maintenance, closing the fiscal year, assessing MM experience, and reviewing what worked or didn’t.

MM's sure, I can see that.  But, not me!  Yes, sad the shows are over...but I have my wife back. (Of course, I'll probably have to continue cooking for the family for a while) 😄

In the past (80s, 90s) if I did not make it to enough shows and then the season ended I would usually be in withdrawal or upset that I missed an opportunity. It was also depressing in some ways because it meant summer was nearly over and school was ready to begin.

I think this is one place where having Flo Marching (and even when it was DCI Fan Network) has really helped. With many many shows being streamed, even Regionals and Finals, I usually feel satisfied when the season ends. I don't feel like I missed something. Yes, the summer is still coming to an end which in itself can be depressing if you didn't get a chance to enjoy it or vacation.
