Popular Post ModernOldGuy
you MUST do it. I can hardly put into words what an incredible experience being in the Crossmen Alumni Corps was for me. It starts with the preparation, then coming together for rehearsal. Regardless of when you marched, you immediately become friends because of the common bond you share. From learning and cleaning the show through the Friday night performance, I went from being 61 to feeling like I was 21. I also can't say enough about how moved we were by the audience reaction Friday night. Again, if you get the chance to march in an alumni corps—DO IT! 11
frachel
I couldn't agree more. I didn't think it would be as impactful to me as it ended up being (back in 2016 w/Bridgemen Alumni) - I'd recommend it to anyone that has the chance! Not an alumni corps, but the most "moved" I've ever been (outside of familial things) was being a part of the Free Players when they performed in Indy in 2018. The audience reaction for those kids was something to behold. I'm so glad they kept the focus on the kids and not us adults playing the music (though we did have 2 or 3 of the kids in the brass section!) I share the same experience. One thing I found out is that the preparation of walking everyday and playing gets you into shape. Then, the first 90+ degree practice day almost wear you out. But, then you get up the next day and feel stronger than you did the day before. Performing was amazing. It went by so fast. I barely remember doing the company front. One minute we are forming it and the next I was in the final formation. I don't remember doing the in-between except the crowd was cheering. 6
Jeff Ream
i was in a standstill group for 12 years, and it was a blast. but i also realize the audience for older style drum corps isn't as prevalent as it used to be. so if someone rolls out a special project for DCI, i am all for it. bluecoats88
yes the 2022 Bluecoats Alumni gig was so much more than just performing a show. It was a once in a lifetime experience to pull old and new alumni together. the first day our bass line (all 8 of us) got together to play it felt like I had played with them for years, we just locked right in and jammed. I guess it helps when everyone is a vet and you've all done it before. I wasn't sure how I was gonna be able memorize parts and handle the drum, but as soon as we started it all came right back like I'd never stopped playing. 5
TenHut
Yes, 2006 MSARP...Scouts alumni corps. This wasn't one of those corps that was open to anyone. You had to march in Madison to participate in this alumni corps. It was the highlight of my marching career. Needless to say, we blew the roof off the ******* place! My kids and Wife were there and they still talk about it. 3
greg_orangecounty
Agree! It was a surreal experience to do it in 2008. Glad you had fun.

There were just a few exceptions, such as a young man who marched in place of his father who had passed.
