Now there's a name I didn't expect to see on this list..but will never complain about.

My man TT has been one of my favorite players / persons since he and his brother Dave both marched with MBI (before Todd went to BD).Todd also wrote and instructed the MBI hornline in '84 with a pretty decent sop player in his own right - Jim Kozlowski(Madison '79). I only WISH I could find a recording of that show..28 horns with an INCREDIBLE sound. Body for body, probably the best hornline MBI ever produced (until the last few years). :worthy:

I got to play some of Todd's stuff in '08 & '09 with Minne Brass..fabulous charts.

He still has incredible tone and range for being a 'part-time' player. He's a sick, twisted individual :innocent: ...but he's still one of the best I've had the honor to play and work with.

Thanks Anthoney for listing him.

Jim Brady from the Bridgemen 1977-1978. He played Land of Make Believe, Spanish Dreams, & Harlem Nocturne solo's . The guy was unbelievable!!!!

He marched with the Saints from edison n.j before coming to the Bridgemen.

George Lavelle

Bridgemen 79-83

Jim Brady was awesome!!! Thumbs up!!1

Well this does not necessarily qualify for the best field soloist, but in 1993, Chris Martin won Soprano I & E for DCI. He is now Principal Trumpet for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, was Assist. Principal for the Philadelphia Orchestra and was just recently a top 4 finalist for the principal job with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. That is quite a resume if I may say so. Another addition, his stand partner at ASO, Mark Hughes, was also one of the 4 finalists for the CSO position. Unfortunately, CSO did not hire any of them after this round of auditions.

Ah yes, the Take Six show, Chattanooga representing.

Scott if my memory serves me correctly I do not think that Chris Martin had a solo with Spirit in 93, but I could be wrong...oldtimers...I remeber Chris from when he was just a little boy...now he is one of the best trumpeters in the world.

I'm sure he's been mentioned somewhere already but I think Jerry Noonan from North Star was one of the best - 78-79. Awesome!

In 1981 we did a standstill in CT, and Jerry joined in and played next to me. Jerry played so loud that I litterally was shaking [i was playing contra that year].

Someone once said that Jerry Noonan played on a Bach 3c. Does anyone know if that is true?

Brady from the Bridgemen is my pick. In a world where the screamers get the headlines, Brady had it all accuracy, phrasing, and utterly tasteful.

I agree on Brady but Jeff Kievit had all that as well.

Man you absolutely nailed it Jeff Kievit 74-75 Muchachos. No one else can even empty his spit valves.

I'll have to go with my personal favorite, Jeff Kievit.

Jeff K., Harpo, the soloists from Madison in 75, North Stars sop soloist, and my personal fav from way back.....Black Knights from Oswego, NY hadan awesome soloist in 72 or 73. He was as good or better than all those guys and I heard he was really a sax player!

OK, Keith. Only you or perhaps Mike Boo or even Frank Dorritie would possibly know this one.

I had it on a Fleetwood recording ... my very first purchase of many to follow ... time: the 60s. The tune: OTL Captain From Castile Where: McCormick Place Chicago. Maybe it was St. Kevin's or the Cavaliers. Featured a wicked triple-tonguing soprano solo that ended somewhere around F or G above high C.

Who was that guy? Because it was he who solidified my need to be in Drum Corps.

Oh, yeah ... do Mellophone solos count? Because there have been a couple of woman behind those horns who have completely blown me away - oddly enough one from each coast I believe.
