Now that camp season has started, any predictions for what direction the corps goes this season, especially now that Potter is back at the helm? And for those of you with kids either returning or auditioning this season, how are your kids liking camp season so far? Clocking it now….a more well-rounded abstract concept that keeps some classical musical elements running through it but branches out musically in some modern pieces. I expect percussion momentum to continue building off last year in terms of contributing to the overall sound. I’m not going to venture a guess on rankings bc that’s so subjective at this point. But I will say bluntly that Crown will not compete for a medal again until they heighten concept and design. Their focus this year has to be on improving that and inching up all non-brass captions. I haven’t heard much outside of the usual statements we hear reported from all corps about strong recruitment. Crowns brass member retention is expected to be the same as other years. Percussion talent was up substantially. No word on guard recruitment yet. 2 Quote

Bodes well for the season, and I’d assume the same will be the case for guard given our great guard staff and KP returning. 2 Quote

The staffing, talent, and musical balance meshed well with brass this year, and fingers crossed, that trajectory continues. I have no read or inside info yet on colorguard recruitment yet, though the staffing additions seem promising. And the way, they are structuring Rosey (sp?) as a primary Design Team core member who mostly works with Artistic Director and Drill by secondarily liases more with CG is a potential sign of improved focus on guard staging, choreography, and integration. I’ve even heard rumors that Rosey and Keith may be writing some drill in the show with Jeff….of course. I like that idea as Jeff has talent but is hampered by being unable to modernize to modern drill/staging needed for show design. A team approach might work well at finding a new visual balance by leveraging their collective team talents. Of course….all these are rumors from the web. Will just have to wait and see what actually turns out to be fact vs fiction. Edited January 21 by NewArpege Quote

They are and have been diagnosing the problems correctly the past year (imo). I’m still not getting my hopes up until we get better verifiable info and evidence than what I have. We are going to get slammed with snow here too. It’s been a while though. Kinda looking forward to it. Stay safe, buddy! 1 Quote
