If you look at all the years the guard staff has been there they have averaged 5th. They are trying to be like a Boston guard but the staff are holding the kids back.

And when are we going to get a drill writer that doesn’t write like the 1980s. It looks so dated compared to everyone else in finals.

4.25, with this year the outlier. The staff is younger than most caption heads and did get third in 2022.

2017–18 I would’ve agreed with you, but I don’t think it’s the cg staff that’s holding them back.

Then be happy with not getting a medal. The right changes will need to happen to win and they need to clear out the visual side.

What's up, Vuitton?

I’ll agree about drill.  Jeff is a legend and amazingly talented, but his style isn’t being rewarded by judges any more. Crown needs a new drill writer that makes every set staged perfectly, hyper visual, prop and guard better integrated, and multiple big wow moments. Jeff has struggled with doing all of these, which are essential in new era of judging.

I’ve also seen a general decline in my enjoyment and what I perceive as quality in his drill lately.

I used to be very mesmerized by his drill and appreciated a lot of what he did. But I have often felt that lately a lot of the expansive staging appears often and is so vast that I’m not getting a visual contrast or even visual musicality. Maybe it’s just me, but it just hasn’t been up to par from what used to be.

I think he’s trying to modernize and hasn’t found his stride yet. Part 3 last year was promising though.  Staff taught that similar to BD where the drill was more organic and not just charts and dots, and it showed….it felt more visually aligned to the music.

I like Jeff. But I do think drill and staging is the weakness of Crown right now.

That would be a real cool opportunity to do some Prokofiev as well!

Prokofiev would harken back to Crown’s past…so I think that makes it an automatic no, lol.

Can someone with ties to the Crown org lmk why crown doesn’t have an alumni corps? I’m a total outsider AND I’ve just seen other corps have them so I assumed everybody did

Crown alumni show repertoire would be legendary

Alumni can’t get an answer. If you can, as an outsider, I’ll buy you a coke, lol.

j/k, j/k…it would take planning and planning is too hard. 🙄

His choreography still doesn’t match the power of the music. It never has and never will; hence 6th place guard this year.
