It was a tough decision to step away from Crown as he/we LOVE that organization. His 2 closest HS buddies and a few others from college have all been with BD for a few years and are aging out this coming summer. My son just wanted to join them for a year as he was the lone wolf that never stayed in the West. Can't blame him as they are all a very close group of friends. Looking forward to his new experience. Awesome for him! Congrats! 🎉 Crown will miss him, but he will have a great summer 🙂 Edited December 3, 2025 by NewArpege 1 Quote

They're cutting 4 mello spots and putting them into trumpets interestingly enough. Very excited to see how this plays out, The brass book should be really fun next year. The number I heard was 55. Interesting about the mellos. It's a younger Euph line this year (Euphs had been vet heavy) 1 2 Quote
Jim Alberty Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 (edited) It's 14º outside and rehearsing on Mars seems miles and years away .... but my Friday listening turned up this orchestral version of Chick Corea's "Spain". I don't have the particulars as to who arranged it - probably Chick himself, rest his soul..... ....but as I listen I hear movement and see sound and feel soul. I would think there is enough variety in this version to sustain most of, if not an entire show. I suppose I want a show that pulls me in, lifts me with melody, pounds me with rhythm and makes me FEEL. One that makes me want to SCREAM in unison with the passion on the field ..... This arrangement seems to do it. Anyway, submitted for your approval on a cold winter night with a full moon and bitter cold. DAYGO Posted December 18, 2025 Posted December 18, 2025 Heard very good things about last weekends SoCal camp. Brass is very returning vet heavy and most of the line has been contracted. A few spots left to fill next month. Looking for that brass line to come out swinging early! 7 1 Quote

erroneous Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hey all, Just wanted to say rest in peace to Pep Manning. Who passed away just recently. A fixture at the blue devils. He marched 1979-80 and was their truck driver for many years after. I did not march BD, but he did teach music/vis, and drive the equipment truck at Arcadia high school all 4 years that I was there. I always thought he was the chillest dude. Rest in peace Pep. 8 1 Quote
