I enjoyed the Bluecoats more than the Blue Devils in '14; "Tilt" became one of my favorite drum corps shows of all time that summer. Crown's show in 2014 was my favorite of the summer. But favorite doesn't always equal best. Because unless there was some alien drum corps coming from outer space, nothing on this planet was beating Felliniesque. To this day, never seen a on field performance and execution like Fellini. Spirit had one of my favorite shows this year, didn't even make finals. 6 Quote
KVG_DC Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 For me it was Animal Farm. It was never fully cleaned (it was an AMBITIOUS level of writing for BAC at the time) and got some finishing touches that were a bit too on the nose and lessened the presentation of the theme. But Animal Farm was a great show. They were at Ft. Wayne too and as that show took off I said the the woman who was volunteering with BD sitting next to me "Ooh. Dark, aggressive, Russian. This is something like you'd see out of Phantom back when." She nodded and said, "Yeah, it's good." The ballad where Boxer dies was just amazingly emotional by season's end. My one regret was not getting the T-Shirt that had the "Animal Farm Rules" on it. Quote

The Cut Outs, too. My fave is still Felliniesque but I do like the Art shows. This show was genius.. let me say every aspect of it was very good, however the only critique, it lost some cohesion after the ballad just a little, even though seamless, felt different than the rest of the show, in the break and abstract moments, but very cool. 5 Quote

Spirit had one of my favorite shows this year, didn't even make finals. This is roughly how I felt in 2014. I loved Blue Devils and it was undeniable that they were going to win. I kind of suspected a score in the 99+ range and was not shocked they hit 99.65. They performed that show with such brilliance and poise and the corps had the cleanest show I've ever seen. I probably liked Crown as much as anyone...maybe more. The two brass lines of BD and Crown were a delight and jaw-dropping experience. BD nipped Crown by a tenth in brass but those two lines were just beasts. Two of the best I have heard in the last 10 to 15 years. In terms of placement, after BD deservedly winning and Bluecoats taking 2nd, I really felt Carolina Crown should have moved to 3rd on Finals night. I thought Cadets should have fallen to 5th. No fault of the performers but the cheese wiz at the end of that show and other issues should have tanked their GE scores. I would have kept SCV in 4th and moved Crown to 3rd. 4 Quote

That BD opening with the sax/sopranos melody as been an ear worm since Saturday night. 3 weeks later and that tune is still in my head. I need therapy. I never knew this until looking, but Madison also did Uninvited in 2007 and also tagged along Kashmir to it as their opener. 4 Quote
