I posted this in a different thread, but I'll offer again here. I'll forever be stuck in the old musical design approach Regiment took, so this is meaningless. Nevertheless...

But as a Finland fan (Fanland) and a Sibelius fan, I'd love to see them do a show based on "sisu," or the Finnish word for the ability to overcome. They've lasted 60 years, with plenty of hardship along the way - they've needed some sisu... (there's a delightfully over-the-top Finnish action movie from 2023 called Sisu - check it).

Some great Finnish music that could be supplemented by new stuff:

- Pre-show of the opening strains of the Sibelius violin concerto, describing the frozen stillness of Finland

- Pohjola's Daughter (Sibelius) has some great low brass moments

- Tapiola (Sibelius) is a bit meandering for a ballad, but it has some powerful sections (e.g., PR's ballad last year), same with Swan of Tuonela

- Kullervo Goes to War (Pylkkanen) would make a great conflict section

- With some clever arranging, Spring Song (Sibelius) could make a triumphant closer, as would the finale to Lemminkainen Suite

- Another closer idea is Aino (Kajanus)

- Other great stuff includes Kullervo (Madetoja), Concerto for Birds and Orchestra (Rautavaara), and the finale to the Kalevala Suite (Klami), not to mention any of several movements of Sibelius's symphonies

They hinted at doing a "viking" show in 2017, then ended up with a horny Wes Cartwright/Red Shoe Diaries production (the music was a better fit for the former than the latter imo). Aside from the Crossmen valkyrie show, this is a theme that could be pursued further.

I support a Finnish show as well, speaking as a member of the Finnish American Singers of Michigan! But you had better include Finlandia in the rep.

How about a k-pop version of Finlandia to appeal to a younger demographic?

While on that topic……

Some very nice Regiment sounding parts to this. Parts would make for a great ballad.

This could work for possible ballad material.

Spartacus, I hope not. Now Defiant Heart would be more like it….it most likely won’t be either of these concepts.

Yeah I feel Spartacus would just end up being compared to everyone's nostalgic memories.

I'd not want them to call anything Defiant Heart 2 or something or rework the same reps.

But something in the spirit of Defiant Heart like this 2025 was in the spirt of 2010 would be great.

You don’t like Spartacus 4-ever?

or Defiant Heart - 2 Defiant for Words 2 Live By?
