Jurassic Lancer Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 The quest to recapture the DCI throne begins today! 2025 is in the books and Bloo put on an historic show. I’ve called the design staff the Mad Scientists of drum corps in prior years, and in 2025 they literally were. So what are these mad scientist going to come up with next? Discuss! 9 Quote
Ashontheinternet Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 this will be the first year with no son lux partnership, so im excited to see if they do another residency with another progressive artist like that, or if they do something completely new. bloo's designers are very hip to new unique music being released, i would love to hear their take on this new album from this artist Quadeca. he put out a really beautiful album that blends like baroque pop, hip hop, and latin music this year that i feel like could fit right in on a DCI field. if anyone was to do it, it would be Bloo. i also am excited to see if they follow their little 2 year cycle trend. they did 2 beatles shows, 2 spoken word poetry surrealist shows, and 2 scientific conceptual shows. what's next? 3 Quote
MarkHornGA Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 They have a tendency to go through phases as a design team. I think we'll see at least one more year exploring a physics-related topic before moving on to something else. Quote

mfrontz47 Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 Personally I hope they do a show that has some more emotional, human elements to it. Some of my favorite Bluecoats shows are Session 44 (the artist's experience) and Riffs and Revelations (dream logic, internal struggle) and while I didn't love Garden of Love's overall design, the theme was really cool. I'm getting a little bit tired of the science, abstract, physics stuff. That being said, they could probably do plenty more shows in that style and I'd really like them. They do what they do so incredibly well. I think Bluecoats shows have such an insane scale to them that no other Corps replicates so well. 2 Quote

cfirwin3 Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 They will do something aesthetically different from what they have done before (at least in recent memory). I would expect them to explore a musical style apart of electronica, and a visual style that coincides thematically with whatever that is. Given that they were successful in visual design and execution this year, I suspect that their field presence will continue in the same manner. Given the close competition and 2-3ish placements in musical design/performance, I would expect them to get out of the minimalism and layering vocabulary that they have been using lately. I would love it if their field props shrunk to 2024 level presence (or essentially disappeared). And I would love it if they returned to pop/rock/jazz and away from alternative styles. We shall see! Kilties52101 Posted August 11, 2025 Posted August 11, 2025 How about a show that makes everyone happy. Something for the traditionalists, something with some throwback music, but a modern twist. A dash of whimsy to capture the spirit of Bloo. But underlying it all, something that requires discipline, musicianship, and attention to detail. I give you ........ Bloo Velvet Nights - complete with blue tux jackets (with the sleeves rolled up), blue baseball caps, and instead of Chuck Taylor All-Stars, Blue Crocs. Quote
