KVG_DC Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 I’d be willing to bet that venn diagram would have a significant overlap in the US 1 Quote

I do believe DCI (or at least some corps?) consolidate large deliveries through Sysco when possible to reduce costs. I’d love to see a 5 minute mini documentary about drum corps food service. Those people are the hardest working volunteers in the entire activity, IMO. Anyway, G7 is very old news, and I’m glad it never got real traction. Ask and yea shall receive 4 1 Quote

While some of the basics were in there, a lot of extras were added by the presenter, and as a result, the other 6 were trapped. Once corps tried to toe the line on both sides of the coin, and the other 15 at the time fought back. over time, and the addition of new faces both within the 7 and others, tempers cooled and more team spirit exists, but it's still fend for yourself in many way. in fact with the presenter out of the picture, i'm told meetings can almost be enjoyable now 1 Quote

He was the guy at the top that set the atmosphere for the organization. He was getting away with it (at the time), and his underlings saw the behavior as acceptable. 2 Quote

So predictable. Manipulators only know manipulation. Even those who trust them will ultimately be manipulated. It’s the only way they know how to get things done. That presentation wreaks of ego. Elipses and exclamation points all over the place. It’s a fever dream that likely started with six pages and ended at 46–and the last 35 were added between 8pm and 4am the day of the presentation…and none of the other cohort members could respond. Typical. Quote

Typical. Concerning the PowerPoint presentation - I was once stationed at Pentagon and thus what we called a PowerPoint Warrior. The G7 presentation breaks so many rules concerning effective presentation/communication that it could be used as an example of what not to do. 3 Quote

The G7 presentation breaks so many rules concerning effective presentation/communication that it could be used as an example of what not to do. The biggest issue to me is the length. The sheer volume of strongly positioned opinions with no supporting data bludgeons the audience into submission, locking out any reasonable way to discuss any of it. The best presentations I’ve seen are no more than a dozen pages and the last page has the word Questions? on it. As was the author’s personality and pattern, this was a hammer that was meant to position him as the sole arbiter of the path forward. That he added pages of #### without ever clearing it with the other corps directors is what a true narcissist would do 💯 of the time—I’ve seen it so many times it makes me ill. Slingerland Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 (edited) GH isn't capable of adult thought and expression. Clearly I'm always somewhat interested that Dave Gibbs escaped unscathed from this mess, despite him being a principal voice in the concept. A thought, however, is that 6 of the 7 members' of the group were still top 9 finalists last Saturday, holding 5 of the 6 top spots (and if Cadets hadn't gone boom.....), so their own belief in their commitment to being good has stood up pretty well. And inarguably, Boston slamming down the checkbook this time in 2016 changed the direction of their corps, so the link between financial capacity and excellence was only underscored. Like it or not, we've entered the Hunger Games portion of the lifecycle of the activity, and the fallout the next few seasons may be nasty. Edited August 13, 2025 by Slingerland 2 1 Quote
