1972 Whitewater my first marching experience at a big show. As for an audience member? Denver 1978.

Evansville 2006. I remember we watched Cadets rehearse a little earlier that day, and that was when they had the original "History Repeating" opening. I also remember instantly falling in love with the Bluecoats show, and to this day I still think that's perhaps their most underrated show.

1987 DCI East Prelims in Allentown…got up in the upper deck in time to see Sky Ryders and VK because seats were general admission. We didn’t even realize there was a prelims show till we got there. Then waited for finals to start and sat on the 15 yard line because we had purchased tickets very late and they were the best available (uninformed newbie back then) 🙂

what a show....back to back prelims and finals...tears then tears of laughter

My first DCI experience was as a high school freshmen in 2004 at Tour of Champions at the Rose Bowl, the week after finals. Phantom melted our faces off as we waited in line to enter the venue. Seeing legendary shows from SCV, Cavies, and BD live for the first time was something special.

July 1996 in Killeen TX.  I'd been a DCI fan for years watching the TV broadcast and buying the cassettes/CD's.  My now-wife got me tickets to the DCI show for my birthday and then Brass Theater in San Antonio the next day.

Got to see Phantom Regiment (Defiant Heart!) and Cavies at the Killeen show, along with Carolina Crown's chess show which blew my mind visually.

Brass theater highlight - we sat at the very bottom row of the bleachers.  When the trumpets hit the first max volume stab from Firebird, they ran up so close I could have reached out and touched them.  O_o

Nowdays, Texas is a huge corps state for recruiting.

Were there drum corps shows to speak of in Texas during the 60s and 70s?

I'm sure a lot of DCPers have fond memories of VFW Nationals in Dallas in '71. It was a tad warm there that week.

I can sort of answer that. We had shows in Oklahoma City and Dallas at Lake Highlands high school in 1977.  We actually rehearsed at the University of Oklahoma and stayed in the dorms in Norman. It was nice to sleep in a bed 🛌 Kilties and Garfield were on that swing with us.
