Yep...but back then  everyone had a standstill concert -- except for Garfield.  They were the first of the new school move-most-of-the-time shows...we ere the last of the old concert-era.

The corps I was with in 1975 didn't have a concert number. We had a few short stop and play portions on just about every tune we played. Judges loved the innovation and rewarded us in GE tenths, but I'm sure we probably lost them right back in M&M when we did move. It was the only time during that period that we actually did something to set us apart from the others and it all happened because the horn instructor thought to himself, why in the heck do we even need a concert? So many things corps could have done in those times but didn't because no one dared to push the VFW/AL envelope.

I'd put 93 well above it.  I would've felt the same if the Cadets had gotten 2nd.

Infreno was my favorite show of that year by a wide margin, but they left their best performance on Friday instead of Saturday, imo.

Yes, this.  My entire grouped looked at each other in the stands after Crown finished their inferno show on Saturday and said to each other that they just gave the trophy to BD, leaving their best show on the field on Friday night.  it's a shame to this day as that was an amazing show.  It was a GOOD example of the best corps on the field THAT night (BD) winning.

A football coach once told his team (who were underdogs) before a championship game..........

"Who cares who the best team was all season or who the fan favorite is, all you need to be, is the best team on that field for the next three hours. Because ultimately thats all that matters."

Straight facts.

BD sure as heck wasnt the fan favorite, the masses would probably even say they werent the best corps that season.

But BD was the best corps on the field that Saturday night at finals. And that's what matters.

.1 between you and Garfield?  I totally see that could be controversial (though .7 deficit in Semis is a fairly 'commanding' win for Garfield, I'd say).

Interesting recaps:

* Garfield pretty high up in GE by .9

* BD & Garfield tied in brass

* BD way up in Percussion by .9

* Garfield takes Vis by .1 to win it all, w/a perfect 10 (+ .2) in Ensemble Vis.

That perfect 10 seems to be what won them DCI in 1984, I'd say (since BD were +.1 in Field Vis: just like the perfect Percussion score put them on top of SCV in 1987.  So at least you and 87 SCV folks can commiserate on something together! 😐🤪

You had to be there.  The scores were close, but it was obvious Cadets were winning.  That West Side Story show started everything design-wise that came after it.
