Counterpoint (and not aimed at you, respectfully) - the GE sheets are insular and do not translate to what the audience is actually seeing.  That's what gets people so disengaged.

This makes me think of the gulf between a film critic and the average moviegoer. Although I feel like an audience member for DCI is substantially more informed regarding the craft than a moviegoer.

I thought the top corps were clean towards the end of the season - even rifle catches and especially flag lines (e.g. Concord).

The problem is that the people pushing the activity are the ones killing it quickly.  I see kids looking more at the music more than anything.  You can't keep demanding more and more with less and less money.  IMHO the sound systems are the most blatant things right now between those that have and have not.  Money buys good sound.
