buglemania Posted February 25 Posted February 25 University of Dayton's Welcome Stadium is the home for 2026 Open Class World Championships. This is about a 2 hour drive, ~125 miles from Lucas Oil. Thats about a 30 minute difference compared to Wesleyan -- could be much worse! I have been a fan and performer in the neighboring UD Arena, but never paid much attention to Welcome Stadium. Anyone know about sight-lines? Will interstate traffic noise be an issue at all? Is parking going to be tight? A lot of black top surrounding the area between the two venues -- but I'm not versed on logistics to know how it all plays out. https://www.dci.org/news/open-class-world-championship-to-relocate-to-daytons-welcome-stadium/ Quote

It's not terrible as far as stadiums go, certainly has a higher capacity than Marion or Michigan City, but I certainly wouldn't want one of those seats right next to the pressbox and I have no idea what their amenities/concessions are like. Parking-wise it shares the same lot as the UD Arena so there's plenty of parking and it's about a quarter of a mile pushed back from I-75 so highway noise shouldn't be too much of an issue, but getting on and off the freeway coming in and out of the stadium might be a little congested as there's only one exit in the immediate vicinity. Honestly I think it's a good pick, and I think it would behoove DCI to split the gate with Centerville's band boosters association this year seeing as they screwed them out of hosting their own show for the first time in like 40 years or so. I really don't remember noise, and at that time, drummers didn't care about Dayton unless we dated guardies. Quote

It's a lovely stadium in a kind of remote location, and that was ok, but my only gripe was how *far* the warmup, parking and stadium were from each other. That was a massive hike to get from place to place. Mike Quote
