Besides that, what positive effect on drum corps and DCI can there be from alienating older fans who've been purchasing products, donating, and publicizing this activity from before that poster was even born? 5 Quote
jwillis35 Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 I am excited to see more drill design. Last summer gave us some corps who moved ever so slightly away from body movement, staging, and an overabundance of stand-fast features and began to give us more controlled movement and drill. I know props will not go away, but I am excited to see if we get less of them but more effective use. Santa Clara really showed us that you do not need props if you have effective visual design. Hoping SCV moves more in this direction with another amazing show. I thought Crown gave us some significant drill as well, even with the large props. Boston gave us a lot of nice drill. I am also excited for good music. We were blessed with some really strong music books last summer. I can only think of a few in the top 20 or so corps that fell short, IMO, of solid to really good music. The source material a corps chooses and how it's arranged is a really BIG deal when it comes to overall show design and effectiveness. I am not necessarily speaking of hummable music or music people like, rather music that works with the show concept and when arranged well and combined with the visual can add that next level of GE. As always I am excited to see young people working hard, performing as well as they can, improving over the season, and enjoying the challenge and the cheers from the fans. What we have with DCI, despite all the complaints, is so worth while, educational and enriching that I hope we never lose sight of the positive benefits amidst all the other talks concerning governance, funding, and so on. What we all love and want to support is really great. It's a game changer for many lives. 4 Quote

Did they use them in a fresh, newish way? Yes, very much so. But they are still props to me. 1 Quote

The dude with the PVC pipes stuck to his arms running around and looking like he wanted to shout out loud "Get these f-n things off of me!" was a little over the top too. 1 1 Quote

If a Corps must have props, they should be props that don’t require an extra semi to haul them around. 5 Quote

IMO Bloo last year had too much stuff out there. i get how it tied into the concept, but it was often distracting. 1 Quote

There may be different user names on the two sites, but it’s the same folks. During the season you often find the same posts on the two sites. I will admit there can be very lively discussions on Reddit, but you also have a fair share of trolls. DCP can go off on tangents at times, and I’m guilty of that at times, but at least most the tangents have something to do with drum corps. Quote
