The dot “thingy’s” imo, are not props at all.  Any more than a flag or rifle is.  It is simply a piece of equipment.  They can be hauled around in a plastic bin, not an additional semi.  They require no assembly or several people contracted to move them around the field.   The same applied to Bostons hoops from Glitch.  Equipment.  Props are what Crown had, Mandarins had, BD had. Stage set pieces. Moveable, static. Large, integrated well in most cases.  Bloo’s platforms from 24 were props.  But well used as a framework or staging.  Bostons props this year really took props to a new level.  Non obtrusive, multiple uses when broken down and disassembled.  Clever. No semi needed. No construction crew or MIT engineering required.  Whst SCV and BAC used for “props” and equipment is where I’d like to see incorporated more.

Totally agree with you.  I think these are more equipment than stationary setting. Maybe they all fall in the prop bucket, but there’s definitely a difference between setting vs equipment that is tossed around.

Environmental or functional. That is how I've heard it defined in my section of the world.

I'm looking forward to the possibility shows incorporate more MELODY into their writing.  You know, the kind of stuff that provides an endearing kind of takeaway. There are tons of options available out there that are even royalty free, too!

Don't want to send an audience away confused!

🙂

Yes! The "Once Upon a Time" melodic hook and reprise in the closer is what nailed it for Boston last year.

Good way of classifying it.

All I know is I prefer props, equipment, and settings to be dynamic.  BAC did a great job of using their props with function the past two seasons. And BD was masterful with morphing setting props into different experiences throughout all last season. Both very effective IMO

I agree. I understand smaller groups using screens, etc to make the field smaller. But when I see stuff on the field, I expect it to be an actual part of the performance.
