Yeah…that’s the show I remember. As I recall, a minute straight of trombone blatting was to signify angst. Gee….why did people not always like new stuff??? 🤷‍♂️🤔

I like the opportunities for different instrument because of the extended technique stuff.  Trombone gliss is the obvious... but:

Doing the Clarinet glissando for Rhapsody in Blue.... mm mm MM!

Beatboxing or pitch bending flute (so cool)

Multiphonics on saxophone (favorite use is right below... give it a second)

so our district had a concert last night featuring 5th grade, 8th grade and one HS ensemble. the 5th graders did a piece that featured trombone glisses....totally musically appropriate and funny as hell.

 

 

and the parent next to me, also knowledgable about the activity said " way better than most of DCI"
