Jeff Ream Posted February 24 Posted February 24 you give the designers the option for a new toy, they're gonna try it. Now will we see Avon sized bands with full woodwind ensembles in DCI? Probably not. no reed company will ever sign a deal for even discounted reeds to keep a corps afloat all season. it depends on how it's used. i want to say i'm hopeful, yet i keep seeing the same gimmick time and again from tombones a decade plus later. and there's still issues with amplification and balance. 1 Quote
MikeD Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Excellent news! Will love to hear this. I'm guessing it is a soloist feature moment in the show. Quote
tedrick Posted February 25 Posted February 25 best sounding mic'd solo instrument - as demonstrated by overwhelming use in BOA of mic'd flute soloists - Like Daffy always said, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" 1 Quote

You know designers: "sure, it's been underwhelming when THEY did it, but I have the PERFECT effect this year for trombones!!" 🤣 Quote

So we’re in the winter blues of off-season so I thought I would spice things up a bit 😁, with that I have ask , why is it you are always so excited about anything that changes the DCI activity from what it currently is? I mean, from a sound perspective do you dislike the unique brass choir and percussion sound that drum corps is ? Why is it that you always throw your excitable support behind each and every change and tweak to the DCI activity? Edited March 1 by Triple Forte 1 Quote
MikeN Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Because in the last few years we've had solos from harmonica, cello, guitar, vocal, vocal *and* guitar, soprano sax and oboe, and they haven't really changed the fundamental sound out there? Turns out they're just fun little add ons that add to the vibe. Mike 2 Quote

I do feel like most shows have featured non-brass the the way you describe, but several of them i'd have loved to have heard on brass. 1 Quote
