Lake Park High School’s show was pretty close to that when the they won BOA Grand Nationals in 1996. It was an opera show, and every piece was Italian except for Pique Dame (Russian). Quote

That's dangerously close to advocating actual melodies and development thereof. That stuff just isn't in our culture anymore. Pity, as it would be refreshing, and we sure could use a break from the musical monotony of most current programming, skillfully performed though it be. 2 Quote

That’s a pretty good way to put it, Sir. Today’s musical arrangements do not lend themselves to audience engagement. At least not much beyond parents, friends, and recent age-outs. This is an opinion I’ve promoted for several years. To take an unaffiliated, unsuspecting neighborhood family along, ask them to plunk down $100 to sample this musical event is a bit risky. Would they come back on their own another year? Not certain. Melody is the one component that gives folks a chance to easily participate. To savor for a time, evaluate on their own. Buy-in, so to speak. Maybe even repeat to themself after the event has ended. Even better is to include a few commonly recognized, proven successful arrangements that sold well by other performers in the past to general audiences everywhere. Simple, obtuse flourishes here and there between running around the field would not be my choice had I ever been in position as some form of entertainment director. Oh, well. The FLO Marching television schedule is where I live these days. Works great for my advanced age generation. ☺️ Quote
