boxingfred Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) This thread tells me a lot about how people think. Bad Bunny's final message was "Together We Are America" (Printed on the football he spiked) From Nunavut, Canada to American Samoa. Edited February 12 by boxingfred 8 Quote

It depends upon how one frames the question, to wit: https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/the-10-most-spoken-languages-in-the-world My question is, why does this matter? Will this ranking change from Semis to Finals if Spanish does a good job and Chinese has an off night? 5 Quote
arabica Posted February 13 Posted February 13 This article on WIRED is a great breakdown of the technical aspects, including a few diagrams of prop, camera, and audio equipment placement, and staging/show flow. 1 1 Quote

I'm not familiar with any of BB's music and don't know a lick of Spanish, so those would have certainly helped me connect more with the performance as a first-time viewer. If they can do it at every modern opera house for any classical opera being put on nowadays, they could certainly have done it for the Super Bowl. Plus it would have likely helped soothe at least some of the white fragility that's been on display in our society over this topic. It's Thursday night, and I still haven't seen a video with subtitles, or a "reputable" translation posted....I certainly hope that a few things I have seen posted are inaccurate. They use a zillion dollars worth of tech, yet can't run subtitles?? Still waiting for the translation, so I can better understand what he was communicating. Quote
2000Cadet Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I loved it. It showed what America is supposed to be, and why I gave 20 of the best years of my life serving this country. Later. 5 4 Quote

Honest question: is it really that important? How did the rhythm, showmanship, and imagery make you feel? In an activity like drum corps, in 2026, where sometimes 165 different things are happening on the field at once with little to no lyrics or spoken narrative to guide us, I would think we are all capable and in fact expert at looking past literal meaning and instead focusing on how the beats, melodies, harmonies, textures, symbolism, and swagger make us feel. IMO, YES....if you are stating/rapping/singing lyrics, you are obviously trying to communicate something with the words......so, yes...captioning here would have helped millions and millions of people receive the songs "messages". I have to say that I don't think 8 year olds should be exposed to the twerking and crotch-grabbing, though I guess others are just fine with that. Imagery and showmanship are fine, but for me, it's all about the MUSIC...though I know many get far more caught up with imagery than I do. It's funny, because drum corps go out of their way to announce their "story", which in a vast majority of cases I do not "get"....but I can determine if the music is well-arranged and exciting, and expecially if things are well-performed.....and yes, I do get "feeling/emotion" when it is great. Swtill, in vocals, personally I need to know the lyrics, and would love to see these translated, so I can fully capture the "messages". 2 hours ago, arabica said: Honest question: is it really that important?
