siletzspey Posted February 17 Posted February 17 My wife and I give to many non-profit organizations, and most tax receipts typically include something like: ABC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and, as such, donations to our organization are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. ABC's EIN: 12-3456789 In 2025 I started gifting to several corps, and none of the receipts mentioned a non-profit status or EIN, and it took some digging to find a non-profit declaration on their web site, and none listed an EIN. Are all DCI corps non-profits? Is there a way to let all corps know it is helpful if their receipts reiterate their non-profit status and EIN? ProPublica does have a non-profit lookup tool, but a corps' tax name doesn't always align with their street name. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/391469643 Thanks, --tg 1 Quote
ranintothedoor Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I just keep my own records. If you can provide proof of donation and that you know they're for sure 501(c)(3) (cancelled checks, etc.) you can survive an audit. (ps, I'm just a guy on the internet. Could me wrong!) Quote

greg_orangecounty Posted February 18 Posted February 18 You should have received a statement from each corps stating the amount received along with their EIN number (although not needed when filing taxes). It’s odd you didn’t get one. I know Pacific Crest sends a statement annually. Thank you for supporting our activity! 1 Quote
dcifanforlife Posted February 18 Posted February 18 All corps have 501c status in order to be a member of DCI. What is frustrating is that you have to spend time searching for their EIN. Some corps send a donation letter every time you make a donation showing EIN and some don't show EIN. Some corps send a statement annually showing total amount donated with EIN listed and some corps send annual statement with no EIN listed. Some corps don't do neither and you have to requested a notice of your donation. I have better things to do with my time then search for an EIN. When you itemize like I do and donate thousands of dollars each year to numerous corps it can be frustrating. Corps need to prioritize more time handling donations but some corps simply don't have the software to do that. It is donations that enable corps to have high priced design teams, management teams and huge staffs. 1 1 Quote

I did receive receipts immediately, and surprisingly some personal follow-ups, but the receipts didn't mention their non-profit status or EIN. Now knowing that DCI requires members to be non-profits helps. I suspect it's a matter of what software a corps uses to generate receipts, and if it can be customized. Thanks Quote
